Etched onto me

Commissioned by: Singing Our Lives / BBC Radio 3

Founded in 2016, Singing Our Lives is a project that brings together refugees living in London, alongside amateur choirs and trained singers, in a large scale community event. Supported by BBC Radio 3, The scheme runs annually and acts a powerful artistic vessel in which people from all walks of life come together to remember, reflect and create.

I was commissioned to write a piece for solo soprano theatre set verbatim text from interview transcripts with former refugee children. The three movement piece incorporates singing and theatre, piecing together a narrative of childhood playfulness and resilience in a country devastated by conflict.
