In water

Commissioned by: Musicity/Barbican (City of London Culture Mile)

Musicity are an arts foundation, tied to BBC Radio 3, that commission new pieces for architecture around the world. In early 2019 they collaborated with the Barbican and the City of London to commission a set of works for buildings and structures in and around the city.

In Water is a response to the Smithfield Rotunda Gardens, a stones throw from the Barbican centre. The spiralling structure is a an oasis of green land that sits on top of an underground car park used for the Smithfield Markets. My piece imagined an event in which severe flooding saw underground spaces like car parks, food farms and public transport systems drowned.
